Take photos an identification app can use
A few calm seconds in the field can turn an uncertain snapshot into a useful identification record.

Capture identifying details
Add close-ups: leaves and stem; wings, antennae, and legs; fins, tail, mouth, and markings; or both sides, shaft, base, and tip of a feather.
Use clear light
Prefer bright, even daylight. Avoid glare, deep shadow, filters, portrait blur, and digital zoom.
Add scale and context
Include a ruler or familiar object without covering the subject, then photograph habitat, growth habit, or surroundings.
Take more than one angle
A top, side, and close view give the app more evidence. Keep the best original files rather than screenshots of photos.
Protect wildlife
Photograph first and disturb nothing. Keep fish in water when possible, do not handle insects or plants unnecessarily, and do not collect feathers; laws vary and many are protected.
